Maltese Students To Travel 1,100km With No Food, Money Or Phones… Just 24 Cans Of RedBull

Three Maltese students are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime after RedBull selected them as one of 200 lucky participants from across the globe. Their task is simple, travel 1,100km in just seven days. Oh, and they also can’t carry phones, food or money.

Team ‘Saved by the Bull’ is comprised of Nicole Cannataci, Jasmine Agius and Matthew Schembri, all students at the University of Malta, who will be the first Maltese participants in RedBull’s Can You Make It Challenge.

From the 10th to the 17th of April, the Euro will mean nothing to them, and their new currency will be cans of RedBull, 24 of them to be precise.

If they make it to their checkpoint by the end of the day, their supply is restocked. These cans will be used to secure food, transportation and anything else they may need to make it to Amsterdam.

Speaking to Lovin Malta the team’s excitement is almost contagious. While nervous about the unknown challenges up ahead, they cannot wait to set out on their journey. But the trio almost didn’t make it to the competition. “The application process was actually a nightmare. We only found out about the application a couple of days prior to the closing date, and everything that could go wrong, did.”

In the end, the team turned a series of unfortunate events on the day of filming into the perfect PR opportunity (that clamped car is 100% legit) and by hook and by crook they’ve now officially been chosen as Malta’s first representatives in the competition.

Combining the strengths of each team member, the three young adventurers are determined to win the whole thing. “Cannataci is super outgoing and athletic, Jasmine is a very strategic planner, although sometimes overly cautious, while Bounty (Matthew) is really just a laid back person with unrivalled skill when it comes to using his hands.”

They believe their individual strengths will help them for the challenges to come, and if previous years’ competitions are anything to go by, they’re gonna need it.

“The details of the individual challenges are still not clear as it’s early days. But last year they had to do all kinds of daring quests, including skydiving and getting tattooed.”

There’s just a few weeks to go till their adventure, but they’ve already got their social media on point. So if you’re looking to keep up with their crazy adventures be sure to follow them on Facebook or Instagram

And if you’ve been thinking about doing something crazy yourself, but aren’t sure if it’s worth the risk, team Saved By The Bull has some pretty straightforward advice for you. “Just go for it. Dive in head first and enjoy the ride! What could you possibly have to lose?”
