Mużika Mużika has become a well established occasion in Malta’s cultural calendar. Next year’s edition promises to build on that momentum with a very positive response to the call for applications.

Festivals Malta announced that it has received 149 applicants submitting their songs for the third edition in 2023.

“It seems that every year the battle for the semifinals will continue to get tougher and tougher. I’m sure the jury has a tough job ahead of them,” Artistic Director of Mużika Mużika Paul Abela said.

The Festivals Malta team will now start the two phase process leading to the selection of the semifinalists.

The first phase consists of several evaluation sessions by an expert jury, after which the best 40 songs will be selected. In the second phase, the artists of these songs will perform live accompanied by a backing track in front of a professional jury.

It is worth saying that this jury will be different from that of the previous phase.

Following this, the 20 songs that will participate in the semifinals of the festival in March 2023 will be selected.

“We take this very seriously because we believe that the selection process should be fair and that guarantees the quality of the songs selected,” CEO of Festivals Malta Annabelle Stivala commented.
