On Tuesday 23rd of April, a special milestone was celebrated with a concert that marked the 45th anniversary of Jum il-Ħelsien.

This event, organised by the National Celebrations Foundation within Festivals Malta, took place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Under the artistic direction of Paul Abela, some of our finest local talents brought the house down with their performances.

The evening’s performers included beloved artists such as Mary Spiteri, Jasmine, Dario Bezzina, JANVIL, Jade, Tiziana, and Klinsmann Coleiro.

The charismatic duo Antonella Axisa and Clare Agius guided us through the evening, weaving a nostalgic tapestry of Maltese culture with their storytelling.

The night was a journey back to the ’70s, inspired by the top twenty songs of the decade, originally shared by the esteemed broadcaster Michael Laus, and included a selection of cherished Maltese tunes. More than just a concert, the evening was a grand celebration of our independence and a reflection on our national identity.

During the event, Minister for National Heritage, Owen Bonnici, handed out commemorative gifts to the organising committee members—a group initially formed by former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff to plan the historic celebrations of 31st March 1979.

If you missed the live magic, worry not! The concert will be aired again on TVM News+ this coming Sunday, 28th April at 9pm.
