Summer may soon(ish) be over, but August’s first weekend in Malta is showing no sign of slowing down.

We continue the warm season with some peak events that deserve your full and undivided attention. From main stage international all-stars to low-key heavy underground nights, and even the rebirth of one of Malta’s most beloved gay clubs, these are the events you need to keep track of this weekend.

Friday 2nd August

1. A back-to-back album launch

Years after their collaboration at Malta Jazz Fest 2016 , Franco-Maltese Jazz group Blue Tangerine have organised back-to-back evenings for the launch of their latest self-titled album at Offbeat, Valletta.

2. Hip hop’s heaviest night returns

Black Plague is back for a sixth edition tonight (or is it 666th?), and it’s set to be one for the moshpitting, metal-trapping books. DJ favourites Invective, I.YOU and Supre return to the decks, along with a debut performance by Cassette, who’ll be joined by Eddie Fresco.

Get a good rest ahead of the night children; it’s going to be a long and heavy one.

3. Friday night BBQ and Beats

All the way from Venezuela and playing her hiphop/afrobeat set at The Yard in St Julian’s is Coco Durst.

The perfect setting for an after work chill out including Jerk/ BBQ Chicken and Vegetarian food.

4. A rock concert on our other rock

Gozo natives Upper Lip will be hosting their annual live summer concert at Mġarr Harbour and will be rocking late into the night.

5. A 100-year wine celebration

Marsovin will be holding a unique wine event this weekend to celebrate their 100th year anniversary. The Travellers will be performing tonight with Beangrowers (who recently released a new single) performing tomorrow.

Saturday 3rd August

6. A not so boring pool party

Pool parties are the highlight of everyone’s summer, but that’s not the reason why this event is going to be the tops.

Australian born, London-based musician DJ Boring will be on the decks with his raw take on house music that has propelled him through the underground house community.

7. Germany’s biggest electronic dance fest lands in Malta with a big bang

Road to World Club Dome is coming to Gianpula this weekend with an all-star line up featuring Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tinie Tempah, le Shuuk, CRISTIAN MARCHI and more.

Sunday 4th August

8. A day rave to close off the weekend…

Keep the partying going with a Sunday morning rave. After their successful summer opening, Sunny Side Up are back and are kicking off their August season with prolific French producer and DJ ‘Brawther’ at UNO.

9. … or some LoFi to chill you out

Another lofi gig at Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex, this time featuring Superlove with their addictively fun and bouncy tunes.

10. An old school band with some new music

Christian Rock band Footprints will be launching their new album ‘We Are’ at Hard Rock Cafe this Sunday and spaces are filling up fast – good thing is admission is free! Just send the band an email to reserve your seat.

11. The rebirth of one of Malta’s biggest gay clubs… this time in Sliema

Klozet is back for one night only this Sunday at MedAsia’s Omnia in what is set to be the most scandalous, glitter-filled, over-the-top, daytime extravaganza this summer.

Photographers and professional drone pilots will be there filming for an aftermovie, so make sure you’re wearing your most revealing afternoon beach glam (without it being too indecent)!

When JP's not too busy working on polyrhythmic beats, you'll probably find him out and about walking his dog.
