All For One And One For All: Maltese Musicians Team Up To Help All-Girl Band Refund Stolen Equipment

A group of Maltese bands and singers are organising a party at the Funky Monkey to raise money for all-girl band Cryptic Street, whose music equipment was robbed from their rehearsal space last week.

The party, on 15th June, will feature some of the island’s best bands and singers – including The Velts, nosnow/noalps, Sam Christie, Five Years From Now, BILA, bark bark disco and Beesqueeze. Cryptic Street themselves will also perform, presumably with someone else’s equipment.

The all-girl band had a nasty shock last week when their music equipment, including large amplifiers, drums and cymbals and effects pedals, were robbed from Rampol – a Birkirkara garage complex popular with local musicians.

“We were terrified really. We received a call on Sunday afternoon telling me that our garage door was open,” Leona Farrugia told Lovin Malta. “At least I feel that there is a community here, everyone started to share our post. Especially musicians. It’s all very relatable to us.”

Cryptic Street has also launched an online crowdfunding campaign to recover  their stolen equipment, worth an estimated €6,000. Over €1,000 has been pledged as of the time of writing.
