The Silent Disco has become one of the three-day festival’s highlights, and is exactly what you’d expect it to be with a name like that.

Festival attendees are given a set of wireless headphones upon entering a large tent in the outdoor area of the venue, with the option to tune in to two separate channels. On these two channels, two different DJs will be playing two completely different sets. While the music will be pumping at full volume in everyone’s ears, the whole experience is pretty surreal if you happen to be on the outside.

The good news is that the Silent Disco will be returning for this year’s Rock the South. The better news is that they’re looking for someone to close Saturday night. And that someone could very well be you!

The 2017 Silent Disco will feature a host of popular alternative communities taking the stage over the three days, including Trackage Scheme, Sick of Ants, Hedon Crew and Freedom Fighters. Rock The South will also have its own crew spinning tunes over the night, and it’s looking for a DJ to join its ranks on the night of Saturday 22nd April.

If you’d like to be in the chance of catching your big break and joining the ranks of some of the top alternative DJs in Malta, this perfect opportunity couldn’t be easier.

All you need to do is send a 30 minute mix to [email protected] to give the festival organizers a general idea of the style of music that you’d play on the night, and you’d automatically be inserted in a competition to choose the best DJ for the night.

Rock the South wants to assure everyone that there isn’t a genre restriction on this; “as long as it leans on the alternative side of things, you can play whatever you want,” festival organizer Nick Morales said. “Previous editions have seen DJ playing anything; rock, techno, dubstep, reggae, drum and bass, disco… if it makes you dance, then it works!”

The winner of this competition will be announced on 10th April, with the full lineup of all the DJs and bands making up Rock the South 6 being released very soon. Stay tuned for more information as it gradually rolls out on the festival’s official Facebook page.
