A Cancelled Flight, A Chartered Private Plane And An Explosive Performance: Dream Theater Absolutely Rocked Malta Last Night
Valletta was absolutely buzzing with live music last night. Not only did the annual phenomenon of Isle of MTV light up the Fosos, but prog metal legends Dream Theater graced us with their presence at the MCC. And boy was it a night to remember…
Actually, the whole concert was quite a close call.
Unbeknownst to most at the time, Dream Theater had issues getting to Malta after their commercial flight was cancelled.
Luckily, guitarist John Petrucci managed to build some ‘Bridges in the Sky,’ renting a private plane for the whole band (because that’s what rockstars do). And so, Dream Theater made it to Malta just a few hours before their show.
Kicking off the evening were local bands Ferrett, Nomad Son and Mirage who got the audience going with their outstanding performances and reminded us exactly what Maltese bands are capable of when given the opportunity.
Supporting Dream Theater where djent/tech/prog prodigies Luke Holland and Jason Richardson, who absolutely blew our minds for 30 minutes straight with their combination of odd time signatures and sweeping solos.
Then it was time for the prog pioneers themselves…

As you can imagine, people were pretty blown away by what they experienced…
This morning, the legends took to Instagram to thank the Maltese crowd
“Quick but memorable trip to Malta,” the rockstars wrote. “So happy we got to play for all of you here. Great crowd. Hope to see you again!”

Thank you Dream Theater, you were awesome!
