EXCLUSIVE: One Of West End’s Biggest Musicals Is Coming To Malta Next Year

Masquerade Malta have just announced one of the biggest musical news for the island, and we’re so excited to be writing this. They’ve just secured professional rights for the hit musical Matilda, and are expected to debut the show early next year.

That’s right; Matilda is coming to Malta!

Inspired by the genius of Roald Dahl, Matilda The Musical follows the story of a young girl who, through the power of imagination, dreams of a better life.

The show itself is both energetic and whimsical, with the majority of the cast being made up of young children.

The role of Matilda is usually played by a 10-year-old girl, and a young girl playing the lead role would be a first in Malta. Also, the female character of Mrs Trunchbull is usually played by a man!

In the world of theatre, Matilda is a very big deal

With a constant stream of sold-out shows worldwide and a stellar reputation (labelled by the UK’s Sunday Times as ‘the standout musical of the decade’), Matilda promises to be an absolutely spectacular show.

The fact that Masquerade Malta has acquired professional rights is HUGE news, as it means that Malta will be added to Matilda’s official list of global shows, and will be a major boost for the Maltese theatrical community.

“We can’t wait to share this smash-hit musical with local audiences. We are sure the perfect Matilda is out there and we can’t wait to find her!” Masquerade’s artistic director Anthony Bezzina said of the amazing opportunity.

Matilda The Musical will be making its way to Malta in April 2020, with the first round of auditions opening up later this month.
