Excitement is building for the return of The Three Palaces, Early Opera and Music Festival with the first performance starting next week!

Now in its 10th edition, the festival will indulge its audiences in an eclectic artistic programme. And will feature chamber music, oratorios, opera, theatre, jazz and much more.

The chamber music concert Quatour in the stunning Gran Salon at the Archaeology Museum Valletta will launch the festival.

The concert will feature Rebecca Farrugia Hall on flute, MPO Principal Oboe John McDonough, Alexandre Razera on viola and Britt Arend on harp. Who will perform masterworks by Debussy and Ravel, compositions by local composer Alex Vella Gregory and the premiere arrangement of “Lament for the People of Ukraine” by Canadian composer David Jaeger among others.

Quatour’s programme has been artistically curated to give us a taste of the frenetic period immediately before the First World war. An era that was dominated by impressionism, art nouveau, and exoticism, which created a new palette of colours and textures for composers at the time.

This event is a feast for the ears of any classical music lover, so we suggest you check it out and try to snag a seat!

On the other side of the musical spectrum on the 9th November, the Gran Salon will transform into a Jazz haven. With an act by superb musicians from one of the United Kingdom’s top Jazz Clubs Ronnie Scott’s.

You may remember Ronnie Scott’s performance from 2020 that virtually took the audience all the way to Soho, London for a virtual jazz concert.

This year some of the club’s celebrated artists are coming to Malta for a live jazz show, including George Hogg on trumpet, Callum Au on trombone, Peter Long on reeds, Will Barry on piano, Dave Chamberlain on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.

As the name Jazz Planets suggests, the musicians will take us around the solar system in jazz, with Holst’s classic themes re-imagined through the lens of the legendary Duke Ellington! Jazz lovers should not miss the unique chance to experience this eclectic jazz repertoire at the Archaeology Museum.

So if you feel like a mid-week Jazz night make sure to get your tickets for this event now before they run out!

This is set to be a fantastic festival, which is being curated by the joint creative minds of Dr Michelle Castelletti and Kenneth Zammit Tabona.

The Three Palaces, Early Opera and Music Festival is taking place between the 1st and 12th November. For tickets and more information visit www.festivals.mt/ttp
