The last month of the summer season is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a few more nights out before the gloom and doom of October kicks in.

This weekend, we welcome back the highly-anticipated and well-established Rockestra, as well the beginning of what sounds like an awesome idea, The Silent Disco Festival. In fact, this whole weekend seems to be dedicated to the world of rock n’ roll, from Latvian pagan metal to blues-rock and everything in between.

But of course we included some techno & electronic gigs in there as well as a US-inspired frat party for all you jocks out there!

Check out all there is to do around Malta this weekend and get planning.

Friday 27th September

1. Latvian Pagan Metal at The Garage

Traditional Baltic Folk music meets Norwegian inspired black metal in the form of Skyforger, a Latvian metal band who will be performing this weekend at The Garage alongside local metal acts Grotium and Animamortua.

2. Not your typical festival…

.. in that, this is a completely noise-free festival, and by that I mean it’s a silent disco festival.

Rock The South’s silent disco is now becoming a full-fledged festival with three full channel headphones pumping reggae, rock, dance, electronic, hip hop (and everything in between) into those tiny little ears of yours.

3. Jazz-tastic!

Il-Gazin never fails to deliver on some good old jazz and that’s why we’re giving them some extra love and encouraging all you cool cats to enjoy a night of great music at this super Maltese venue!

4. Pebble Beach at Beer Cave

… now say that 10x faster.

Local blues-rock act Pebble Beach will be rockin out at the Beer Cave this weekend for an evening of blues, funk, rock, jazz accompanied with some great beer on tap too.

5. Techno at Tigullio’s

Discover the world of experimental frequencies and colourfull grooves that techno has to offer over at Tigulio’s this Friday featuring Milos Bogdanovic, Junior Green and Seekeer.

6. Funk Shack at The Storeroom

Reconnect with the melodies of African-American music from the mid-1960s in this weekly Friday night session at Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex.

Saturday 28th September

7. Do you wanna get rocked?

It’s time for the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to team up with some local and international musical acts to bring you their take on some of the greatest hits in rock n’ roll history.

Yes, Rockestra is back and this time it features some international acts including FreiRaum5 frontman Markus Neugebauer and The Voice Australia finalist Simon Meli!

8. Saturdays are for the BOYZ

Enjoy a frat party the way it’s meant to be enjoyed, with an open bar, shot bar and some banging tunes to keep you going through your alcohol-induced binge!

9. Open mic night

Casey’s is holding its infamous open mic nights every Saturday! Drop bu at around 8 pm to guarantee yourself a spot, whether you’re a poet, comedian or musician… the stage is yours!

10. End of summer showcase

Alive is set to wrap things up for summer with its end of summer showcase in at Marrakech in Gianpula Village featuring sounds coming from Ramzi MT, Dre’, Becky Gee, Voor, Myriad, Alamango, Deprave and Lijim Mt.

11. Connect Through Culture at the Ta’ Xbiex Yacht Marina

The Ta ’Xbiex Local Council will be hosting their annual ‘Connecting Through Culture’ event this coming Saturday with more than 12 countries participating.

Celebrate cultural diversity in the best way possible, with world music and dance, from Samba, Flamenco and Maltese & Greek Folklore. There will also be food stalls and entertainment for kids, the perfect combination for a night out if you ask me!

The countries being represented in this year’s edition are Australia, Italy, Brasil, China, Palestine, Kuwait, Spain, Greece, Tunisia and many others who will be participating for the first time…

Sunday 29th September

11. Cillian at Kennedy’s

For the first time in Malta, Cillian Foster and Ivano Gangemi will be performing at Kennedy Bar & Bistro. Hailing from Dublin City, Cillian Foster is considered to be one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the city in a decade.
