Experimentation And Musical Delight In Birgu As Hainbach Closes Circuits 2022
With today’s obsession with the latest digital musical devices, it’s no surprise that there are those who devote their lives to the celebration and preservation of old techniques and machinery.
Stefan Paul Goetsch, better known as Hainbach, is one of those avid collectors and music makers.
These collectors can be found raiding antique fairs and broadcast studios across the world salvaging unused, or slightly faulty gadgets.
Hailing from a bygone era of giant tubes and tank-grade metal boxes used as test equipment, the gadgets’ hum and warm sound processing have become the ultimate prize for collectors and producers looking for a certain je ne sais quoi.
Once fixed or simply re-electrified, these machines destined for the scrap heap, breathe new life, giving music studios an electronic Frankenstein-esque backdrop.
On 8th December, the historic walls of Egmont Hall inside Fort Saint Angelo, Birgu will also come to life as Electronic Music Malta presents Hainbach, the Berlin-based electro-acoustic composer and performer for its Circuits 2022 programme closing.
When it comes to Hainbach’s music, you’ll find he celebrates all aspects of music production. Using very modern equipment in harmony with older gear and instruments, his performances are destined to include some form of experimental machine or technique that results in a unique soundtrack and experience for those in the audience.
Considering EMM’s (Electronic Music Malta) shared values of devotion to the preservation, education and celebration of electronic music, it was only fitting that such an event marks Circuits 2022 programme closing, where Hainbach will be sharing an experience through his unique creations – the driving force behind his unique sound.
Taking place on the 8th December from 7.30pm, the night also features performances by local artists Owen Jay, The Chemist and Robert Farruggia, along with light design by Late Interactive.
Supported by Arts Council Malta and in collaboration with Heritage Malta and the German Maltese Circle, an evening of experimentation and musical delight in the surroundings of one of Malta’s oldest, historical strongholds and finest examples of Baroque interior architecture and design awaits. Tickets are available from Heritage Malta and further information may be found on Circuits Malta.
