Isle Of MTV Superstar Refuses Planned Interview With ONE Due To ‘Political Motivations’

A planned interview between ONE, the Maltese media house owned by the Labour Party and current government administration, and Paloma Faith, the singer behind hits like Lullaby who will be performing at tonight’s Isle of MTV, ended up being cancelled at the last minute after the UK singer refused to interview with them due to their political background and motivations.

The interview was planned to be held this morning at the Radisson Blu in St Julians, however her team made it clear that Paloma would not sit down with any journalist or member from ONE or ONE News after finding out more about the organisation, which supports the government and has a notable pro-Labour Party bias. After researching the Maltese media house, the UK-based singer would not be interviewed by them under any circumstances.

Paloma Faith, a daughter of a staunch feminist, is known to be politically aware. She attended rallies against former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher when “in her pushchair”, and has previously said she believes popstars should stop being “sheepish” and stand up for what they believe in.

The Malta Tourism Authority has denied that ONE’s political background is the reason that Paloma Faith refused the interview. Janice Bartolo, a senior manager at the Malta Tourism Authority, said that the reasons for the cancellation are unknown and saying it is due to ONE’s political leaning is “speculative”.

Representatives from MTV said the reasons for cancelling the interview with ONE were purely logistical issues. Saying they oftentimes aren’t able to give interviews to all the journalists they invite, they said the only reason Paloma Faith refused the interview with ONE was due to time constraints.

Lovin Malta was the only media house Paloma Faith would allow a one-to-one interview with this morning. However, Paloma Faith refused to be filmed during the interview, and as such Lovin Malta cancelled the scheduled interview with her.

What do you think of her refusal to hold the interview?
