Let’s Get This Show On The Road! 10 Awesome Weekend Events To Beat Those Autumn Blues In Malta
It’s officially the rainy season, but that doesn’t mean you should use it as an excuse to stay inside during the weekends. In fact, we advise the complete opposite. With so much happening at the moment, staying inside would result in a serious case of FOMO… and this is one weekend you don’t want to get caught up with that.
From the Lovin Music Awards to The Grid Sprint, there’s a whole bunch of different things that you should definitely show your face at.
Friday 18th October
1. An album launch party by one of the most promising metal bands on the block
Align The Tide will be launching their debut album Dead Religion under new label Cleopatra Records, and they’ll be doing so in style.
The band will be playing the record in its entirety this coming Friday at The Garage. Expect them to be in full force as they welcome a new chapter in the band’s short but illustrious career.
2. A musical tribute to Queen
We Will Rock You is one of the longest-running musicals on London’s West End and it’s coming to MCC this weekend.
The musical will feature all of Queen’s hits from Radio Gaga to Bohemian Rhapsody, and of course – We Will Rock You.
It will also feature the West End’s Lady Katie Paine as well as an all-star local cast including Francesco Nicodeme, Tez Camilleri, Michela Agius, David Ellul and Edward Mercieca.
3. Versatile in Manoel
Versatile will be hosting their second concert in two months in aid of Dar Bjorn this coming Friday, but this time, they’re taking to Teatru Manoel for a night of Malta’s top artists performing your favourite tunes.

Saturday 19th October
4. Launch of a label
The Yard is launching a new techno label entitled Thirst Unicorns at Cloudberry this weekend, featuring international and local DJs; Roberta Nicholls, Belenegro, Max Imal and Devito.
This event is 100% for all you techno fiends out there.
5. Rolex Middle Sea Race kick-off
One of the best sailing events of the year is kicking off in Malta this weekend. The Rolex Middle Sea Race starts and ends at the Grand Harbour and attracts some of the best sailors from around the world.
6. Malta’s biggest music awards show is here
The Lovin Music Awards is finally here! With over a dozen of Malta’s best musical acts performing throughout the evening, along with a stellar and exciting awards show in between, this is one event you definitely have to attend this weekend.
Show your support for the bands and musicians you love! You’ll even have a chance to vote for the Best Performance Of The Night on the evening!
7. 80s neon is back in fashion…
The Wild West Project is bringing 80s neon costumes into fashion with their all-day-and-night event held at Malta’s timeless venue, Beachaven.
Party like its the 80s with this event that kicks off at 3pm and doesn’t end until the early hours of the next day.
8. The Grid Sprint
The Grid Sprint is taking place at Golden Sands this weekend and will feature rough terrain runs, killer hills, climbing and more. If you haven’t registered already, you can always go and show your support – and at the same time see hundreds of people suffer as they attempt this formidable challenge!
9. Architecture comes alive
One of the UK’s most prestigious architects, Alison Brooks, will be holding a talk at MUZA this Saturday to discuss her work and architecture journey so far in what will be a TED-Ed like event.
Brooks is the only British architect to have won all three of the UK’s most prestigious awards for architecture: the RIBA Stirling Prize, Manser Medal and Stephen Lawrence Prize. She was awarded the 2013 Woman Architect of the Year by the Architect’s Journal in recognition of her work in housing, regeneration and education. In 2012 Alison Brooks and her team were awarded Architect of the Year and Housing Architect of the Year.
The talk will be followed by a wine reception sponsored by Marsovin together with canapés by Elia Caterers.
