“This is wonderful news for anyone who loves rock music,” Minister Owen Bonnici said.

He said that Rock’N Malta provides an opportunity for local talent in rock music to showcase their repertoire or bring foreign talent to perform in the country.

“Also, we will be working hand in hand with the private sector, promoters, local artists, and NGOs through this funding stream,” Bonnici said.

Through the Rock’N Malta initiative which was launched in 2017, Festivals Malta continues to invest in the music talent of various genres available on the island.

“Festivals Malta aims to give various opportunities to our artists. Just Festivals Malta organises various festivals of different art forms and all musical genres, including music in Maltese, jazz, classical, and more. With this fund, we are also focusing on rock music and all its subgenres,” Chairman Aaron Zahra said.

Through this initiative, which forms part of Festivals Malta’s extensive portfolio, the agency can support the local rock music scene. Over the years, Rock’N Malta has hosted artists such as Dream Theater, Dee Snider, Steve Hackett, Krokus, and more.”

Applications for Rock’N Malta funds close on Thursday, 22 September, at noon. Anyone interested in applying should visit www.festivals.mt for more information.
