Maltese And African Migrant Artists To Unite For A Performance In Valletta This Weekend
Young Maltese and African migrant artists will perform on the same stage in St George’s Square, Valletta on Friday evening as part of a unique show to promote integration amongst youths.
The show is a collaboration between the Valletta 2018 Foundation, MOVE, RootzIsland and Spark15 – the first ever Maltese NGO set up by refugees.
The performance will start at 7pm with a freestyle dance show by Maltese hip-hop group O.T.H and Hearts for Art, a hip-hop group composed of two immigrants from Paris and London.
Maltese rapper Neil L-Urugan will then take to the stage alongside Nigerian reggae artists Rasta Bama and Res Kunta, and Gambian DJ ONNS.
The closing set will be by Pon Di Corner, a collaboration of international hip-hip artists who met each other while free styling on a street corner in Malta three years ago.
The public will also be able to participate in activities, such as street soccer, tug of war and slacklining.
“The aim of this event is to bring all youth from different backgrounds together. And that we are aware of what is happening, but we want to solve it in our own way because #YOUthCAN do it,” the organisers said in their promotional message.
