From veteran rock bands to 14-year-old artists lighting things up from their own home studio, Maltese artists have been busy once again, adding more heat to an already hot summer start.

Check out what’s been cooking in Malta’s music scene by giving a listen to these five, new bangers.

But don’t let it end there! Stay tuned for album launches from Malta’s very own Pyramid Suns and The New Victorians set to take place later this month.

1. Pyramid Suns release ‘Cold Wind’

Pyramid Suns’ new release is all about that deep animalistic drive and how embracing it is only human. Something we can all get on board for sure.

Many know the band for their progressive, psychedelic, and alternative take on rock. And this latest track is just that.

Add this to your next playlist, but don’t stop there. Later this month, the band will be launching their brand, spanking new full-length album – ‘Reflections’. Be sure to catch the event right here.

2. Kym Pepe releases ‘Armier’

‘Armier’ is the first release since Kym Pepe’s debut EP ‘Kun’. It takes on an upbeat indie synth-pop vibe, the very same one the artist is known for.

The song is co-written by producer Jimmy Bartolo in one dreamy arrangement pitching nostalgic lyrics about the singer’s earliest memories. Memories of sun, sands, family, and friends.

80s-inspired ‘Armier’ is the first installment of a set of singles set to be released by local Maltese label Ultralow Music throughout the coming months and with restrictions to mass gatherings being lifted, live performances are needless to say inevitable.

3. Different Minds release ‘Helping Hand’

After the band’s success in Summer 2020 with their song  ‘Across The Borderline’ topping the Malta Charts, Different Minds are back with their new single ‘Helping Hand’.

It’s a song that’s all about the appreciation one has from receiving a helping hand in amid difficulties in life.

Different Minds gigs are popular for their alternative and indie pop-rock music from all genres and are often remembered for their original songs like ‘I Can Change’, ‘Only On His Way’, and of course, ‘Across The Borderline’.

4. Jillian Jade releases ‘Backseat’

Jillian Jade released her brand new single ‘Backseat’. On release, Jade has called the track “her best by far,” and many of us at Lovin’ are inclined to agree.

‘Backseat’ is all about summer love. About sun, fun and making memories, and living life in the most colourful way possible.

5. Krista Šujak releases ‘Help Her’

Krista Šujak may be just 14 years old, but she’s been singing since she was five years old, and took part in many international festivals, including the Sanremo Junior.

Two years ago, she inaugurated her own home studio and since then, she has produced two tracks. ‘Ghalik Missier’ and ‘Bl-indipendenza’.

Her new track, ‘Help Her’ was written four years ago. At 11 years of age. So now the release has been done together with an Argentinian producer… through video calls! And this all amid a series of COVID-19-related hiccups.

The song is all about loneliness, hence the title ‘Help Her’, and it is Šujak’s first single that is accessible from Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, TikTok and a host of other platforms.

5. The New Victorians release their album ‘Thick Skin’

The New Victorians are back with their second full-length album – ‘Thick Skin’.

“As women, we’ve often been told that we need to have thick skin to get anywhere in life,” they said. “But then, of course, we must make sure that our skin isn’t too thick, that it becomes numb or hardened.”

The 13-track album is all about two sisters in their late twenties grappling with life’s ups and downs.

The New Victorians have also announced a weekend of exclusive performances where audiences will get to experience the brand new songs for the first time in an interactive pre-launch concert.

Shows will take place between 17th and 19th June at Valletta Campus Theatre. And it will be Malta’s first interactive album experience, where audience members will not only hear the songs for the first time but also participate in playing the tracks along with the duo during an immersive evening of entertainment.

Without question, these songs need to make their way to your next Spotify playlist. Be it the one you listen to whilst you’re in the car, at the gym, or at home with friends.
