Maltese Bassist And Band To Perform At Isle Of Wight Festival Alongside George Ezra And Noel Gallagher

Ask any indie/pop rock enthusiast for some of their current favourite artists and names like Noel Gallagher, George Ezra, Biffy Clyro and Bastille will very likely make an appearance. Well, can you imagine being able to say you’re going to be performing at the same festival as all those musical giants?

Maltese bassist Jamie Hayes can officially say that. Together with his UK-based band Neon Islands, Jamie will be performing at the Isle of Wight Festival this July.

They’ll be playing on a smaller stage, called the This Feeling w/Pirate Studios + Scotts Stage

Quite a mouthful.

So they won’t exactly be playing alongside those big names. But they’ll still be playing at the same festival, which is still pretty fucking exciting. Other big names performing at the festival include Brit-pop queen Lily Allen and KEANE of Everybody’s Changing fame. So it’s bound to be a killer weekend.

Neon Islands have performed in Malta a couple of times before

Having made their way down here to participate in festivals like Rock The South and Sickfest, and they’ve also performed at the popular Malta Takes London festival over in the UK. They were featured on BBC Introducing as an artist to watch, and play several gigs in the UK on a regular basis.

Not bad at all.

Before heading on over to the UK, Jamie was part of a local group called Unexpected

That had a brief stint as Phobics, whose Facebook page is still active, which gives me cause to hope for a reunion. Until three out of four of the band members – including Jamie himself – crossed the continent to study music in London.

The one member to remain in Malta, Sam Christie, has also made a name for himself here in Malta with his original music.

And I know all of this because I was Unexpected’s number one fan. I even made my own merch for them. Contact me for proof.

If you can’t get yourself over to the Isle of Wight to enjoy the music of Neon Islands, you can find them on most streaming platforms

Or wait for them to return to Malta for another performance. I don’t know when it will be, but TBH I can’t wait to rock out to their smooth tunes.
