Maltese Tenor Joseph Calleja Tops UK Charts With Latest Classical Album

Maltese superstar tenor Joseph Calleja has topped the UK classical charts with his latest album. Verdi is currently sitting at Number 1 in the Specialist Classical Chart.

Verdi is also sitting at Number 3 in the Classic Artist Albums Chart.

Released on February 2nd of this year, the album sees the opera singer explore the darker and lighter sides of Verdi’s epic tenor role.

It features guest appearances from soprano Angela Gheorghiu and baritone Vittorio Vitelli.

Verdi holds a very special meaning for the Maltese tenor. Joseph Calleja’s debut performance at at the age of 19 was in Verdi’s rendition of Macbeth.

This success in the UK follows his recent fun appearance on the BBC Breakfast Show, where host host Naga Munchetty was clearly smitten with the singer.

On the show, he said that “singing opera is like a sport: you are like an athlete, and your body is the instrument.”
