Opera In The Capital: The Three Tenors Returns In Valletta

An extraordinary evening of arias and classics featuring three outstanding Maltese tenors: Alan Sciberras, Cliff Zammit Stevens, and Nico Darmanin is set to return to the capital.

The concert will be held on Wednesday 28th June, at St George’s Square in Valletta, starting at 9pm. The musical direction will be led by Maestro Michael Laus and Maestro Ryan Paul Abela.

During a press conference, Minister for the Arts, Owen Bonnici, Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman, Jason Micallef, and CEO Catherine Tabone expressed their excitement about the event. 

Minister Bonnici described the return of the Three Tenors to Valletta as great news, praising their captivating performances known for their vocal prowess and musical excellence. He emphasised that the concert not only promises a delightful evening of world-class entertainment but also pays homage to Malta’s rich cultural heritage, further establishing the country as a premier destination for music and the arts.

Jason Micallef highlighted the significance of “Opera in the Capital – The Three Tenors” as a high-quality event held in the heart of Valletta, responding to the demand for open-air events. He also announced that the acclaimed Maltese singer, Chiara, will join the trio of tenors for this year’s concert.

Catherine Tabone, CEO of the Valletta Cultural Agency, emphasised the accessibility of the event, providing an enjoyable encounter with opera to a diverse audience while also serving as a platform for local talent. 

She expressed her pleasure in collaborating with Alan, Cliff, and Nico, who represent the achievements of talent, hard work, and commitment. Tabone eagerly anticipated a full St George’s Square, filled with an enchanted audience.

“Opera in the Capital – The Three Tenors” will feature a repertoire of world-famous operatic tunes and classics. The concert, being the third in the series, follows the tremendous success of previous editions.

With the addition of Chiara and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), the night promises to be something truly special. Highlights from the programme include Puccini’s “E Lucevan le Stelle,” Bixio’s “Mamma,” Panceri’s “Vivo Per Lei,” Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever,” Chiara’s “Angel,” Foster’s “The Prayer,” and Lloyd Webber’s “Music of the Night.”
