A popular live music venue has transformed its empty space into a virtual concert hall for local musicians to express their creativity to an online audience.

Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex has launched SR Remote – a series of pre-recorded live performances broadcasted on social media with performances by local musicians.

And the first session has already dropped featuring indie artist Sam Christie who performed a stripped-down version of two of his songs, one of which is off his new album set to be released in the coming months.

“Since COVID hit, the live music industry has suffered drastically and most musicians have ended up without work,” Kristina Sammut, Bar Manager at Storeroom, told Lovin Malta.

“Our aim is to collaborate with local artists to give them a platform to connect with an audience through online video,” she said.

Local musicians have been struggling immensely since the COVID-19 pandemic hit with little to no shows being organised over the past year.

However, some venues have learned to adapt, and what Storeroom provides is an opportunity for musicians to keep the passion burning.

“By means of these performances, a direct donation link will be set up to the artist, whereby the audience would be able to donate directly to the artist should they wish to, and help them out during these trying times,” Kristina continued.

A lineup of local artists has been established for the next few months, at least until bars and venues are once again allowed to reopen.

“The aim of SR Remote is to inspire and connect with people through intimate music moments and support local talent simultaneously,” she ended.
