Pride, Parties And Pulp Fiction: Here’s How The Second Weekend Of September Is Shaping Up In Malta

Article Featured Image

This weekend is a big one, mainly because Malta will be celebrating Pride with its annual march in Valletta on Saturday and we’ve got a super cool #LovinLollipop Pride float in the mix.

It’s also a big one because Malta has some big (and I mean really big) Hollywood stars coming to the island for a one-off Q&A session before they film their latest project here.

On top of that, there are some super cool parties happening this weekend ranging from hardcore techno to blues rock and 80s classics.

So if you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, give one of these events a shot!

Friday 13th September

1. An exclusive day event at a beach venue

Dazed & Confused is back for an exclusive day event at 1926 Beach Club in Sliema featuring one of the hottest Maltese DJs of the summer, Dean Demanuele and F//asco.

2. Blues in Gozo

Blues-rock act Pebble Beach will be making an appearance over at Gozo’s favourite live music venue this weekend for an electric set at St Joseph’s square.

3. A rock and electronic calamity from the infinite space

Coming off the back of a killer release, Lucy’s Last will be descending upon Rumours, Pietà for a set of electric sonic stimulation alongside fellow synthesiser stoners Shlamizard.

Earlier that night a calamity descended from the infinite space. It’s up to two local bands to hype things up and send it back whence it came.

Now that’s how you market your event.

4. Confetti and a crazy party

Barcelona-born mega-brand Elrow is bringing its crazy, hedonistic parties to Uno this weekend featuring Nic Fanciulli, the Mambo Brothers, Tony Varga and many more. Hold on to your feathered headdress; it’s going to be a big one with even bigger prizes in store.

5. Spicing up Pride week…

…is none other than Lollipop!

This time, they’re taking a break from all the sugar and spicing things up with all the gay anthems and bangers you could ever hope for. Don’t forget to dress up as your favourite pop/gay icon and take full advantage of the photo and glitter booth.

And of course, we’ll be seeing you there!

6. Hollywood’s biggest names in Malta for a Masterclass

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for filmmakers and movie buffs alike! Hollywood super start Harvey Keitel (or you may know him as Mr Wolf) will hold an interactive discussion at Spazju Kreattiv after the screening of the cult classic ‘Pulp Fiction’.

7. Impromptu pop-up gig with one of Malta’s biggest bands

The Travellers will be closing up the Enemed Moving Beat tour with a gig at Valletta Waterfront where they’ll be playing everything from their latest hits to the classics.

8. Gozo’s festival to end the summer

Gozo is closing off the summer season with one last festival over the weekend featuring three evenings of music, dance and all-round fun.

Taking place at the picturesque Żewwieqa in Mġarr Harbour, The Gozo End of Summer Fest will feature a Rock Legends concert, a summer carnival and a Jazz Do gig to wrap it all up.

Saturday 14th September

9. “The biggest 80s party in Europe” returns

An 80s retro event like you’ve never seen before.

DJ Alex Grech will return to Gianpula Main Room for a six-hour set of your favourite 80s classics, from Madonna to Wham!, Bon Jovi to Duran Duran and Queen to Culture Club.

10. Raving it up at Liquid

Void is back with their event series at Liquid featuring two respectable names from the underground rave scene, German-based DJ Elad Magdasi and Frenchman AIROD.

Supporting them will be local talents Etched and Antidote.

Sunday 15th September

11. Sunday Sesh summer send-off

Sunday Sesh are closing off their first season with a big one!

DJ Ruby returns for a final Sunset Set supported by residents Sandro, Brady, Maurice, Adee & Nate and guest DJ from the UK, DJ Seany.
