Punk, Pop, Hip Hop And Everything In Between: Maltese Musicians Have Dropped Some Fire Tracks This Week

Article Featured Image

You may be surprised to know that Maltese musicians are releasing music on the daily and I bet you’ve probably missed a couple of tracks this week too.

But thank God for the weekend, right? Because now you have plenty of time to kick back and check out some of these rad new tracks released by Maltese artists this week.

1. Chris Birdd: What If

LA-based Maltese rapper Chris Birdd dropped his latest single ‘What If’ last week… and it’s straight up fire.

‘What If’ was written and recorded in LA and was produced by Birdd himself, along with in-house British producer Sinxi. The track fits nicely in the pocket of contemporary hip hop and has that laconic vibe that makes it perfect for an after-party chill out.

Birdd also dropped some visuals to go along with the track which was shot by Anthony Mizzi during their time in Hollywood.

2. Eddie Fresco: Loud Gangster Rap (feat SADGASM)

215 Collective’s Eddie Fresco released his single LOUD GANGSTER RAP over on prestigious international platform Trash Gang’s YouTube channel, racking up nearly 80,000 views (and counting). Talk about impressive for a tiny island!

The song also features fellow cloud rap artists SADGASM 悲しい) who are also part of the Trash Gang community.

The singles features a pretty neat music video containing fights scenes from Dragon Ball Z – a fitting mix considering the intensity of the song.

3. AIDAN: The Feeling

AIDAN released a fiery music video to go along with his latest single, The Feeling.

The music video follows a couple as they get caught up in police chase after robbing a convenience store at gun point. #StandardSaturdays

4. Nicole Cassar: Candy Lover

Newcomer to the scene this week is Nicole Cassar with her second single. Produced by Mr.Root with a live guitar twang courtesy of local guitarist Paul Nailor, the track is a tongue-in-cheek bubblegum pop ode to a lover who can’t seem to make his mind up.

5. The Busker: LWCTW

Although not a new single, The Busker released a music video for their funky track LWCTW (short for Love Won’t Come This Way) this week. The music video features the band members as silhouettes projected as different colours, giving it an old school rock/funky vibe.

6. Kurt Kind: Divine

Kurt Kind’s latest DIY release Divine is a throwback to ’00s pop punk with its call and response chants and ‘whoaas!’

7. Double Standard: Patrick Swayze

Punk/Hardcore trio Double Standard have released a single for the Kinemastik film festival happening this weekend, aptly named ‘Patrick Swayze’.

The song is just over a minute of pure punk hitting you in the face at 100 mph and features a trippy music video made produced by Andres Algeciras using Chris Bianchi’s illustrations.

BONUS: Gaia: Why Should I?

While not technically a release, this one’s as close as we got to new music by one of Malta’s biggest (and youngest) pop singers.

Be on the look out for Gaia’s new single, coming out next week…
