Sleighin’ Singles: Latest Tracks Released By Maltese Musicians For Your December Listens
Christmas has come early thanks to these musicians who have gifted us some great tracks to kick off the month of December.
These last couple of weeks have been a mixed bag of musical releases, from debut albums to politically-infused single and, of course, your jolly Christmas anthems. There’s no shortage of great tracks here, thematically relevant to what is going on in Malta today.
1. Dusk – Towers of Greed
Blues-Rock group Dusk have released a new song titled ‘Towers of Greed’ and it couldn’t be more fitting to today’s political climate. Towers of Greed can be described as a groovy, vintage track with a likeness to Pink Floyd. The message behind the song is probably best left to the band to describe:
‘Tale of a frenzy of environment wrecking construction, and a society too brainwashed to see deception behind a Neo-Liberal promise. Sickness ensues, circling around the desire for more money, endorsing flagrant corruption, culminating in MURDER and the raising of a flag on the ultimate TOWER OF GREED.’
2. Eddie Fresco – Bentley Coupe Freestyle
215’s Eddie Fresco has had quite the year as a solo artist defined primarily by the release of his debut album Incognito back in September. But busy isn’t busy enough for the Maltese rapper, who just released his latest single Bentley Coupe Freestyle, a less-aggro but flowier trap track, to close off the year with the same level of intensity as it started.
3. Noogie’s Crew – Till Darkness Returns
Noogie’s Crew launched their album with one killer night of heavy metal and headbanging at The Garage last week and now it’s all available on YouTube for your listening pleasure.
Till Dark Returns features eight lengthy tracks with a characteristically 80s heavy metal vibe sitting somewhere between Iron Maiden and Ronnie James Dio.
4. Vocal Lane – Dawl il-Milied
Performing arts school Vocal Lane have released a music video to go along with their original track ‘Dawl il-Milied’ and it’s the perfect Christmas song to get us into the holiday spirit.
Performed by the talented students and teachers of the school, the song embraces the Christmas spirit and opens its arms to all aspects of music, featuring a rap section along with a choir. These are some truly talented young musicians!
5. The Violent Violets – Green Light
The Violent Violets are gearing up for their album launch this weekend and have yet again teased us with another sci-fi synth track ‘Green Lights’.
Thematically similar to their previous release but different in that, for the first off this album, Green Lights features vocals. Together both tracks suggest that The Violent Violets have gone for a more experimental and electronic approach with this album reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails but on an acid-induced trip.
6. REA X Funky Monkey – Roulette
We didn’t think we’d be bopping our heads to the sounds of corruption and 17Black, but here we are. Rea has capitalised on recent events to take a dig at the government’s corruption scandals and she doesn’t hold back.
Roulette’s lyrics are as dirty as the beat itself and the turnaround on the song and video is quite impressive considering how quickly things have unfolded.

7. Brikkuni – Alla lliberani
You know Mario Vella and Co. had to have their say on today’s political climate with their new song Alla lliberani. The song was recorded in March but Brikkuni was waiting for the right time to release it… and that time has come.
8. Keen’v – Pour y arriver
We have no idea who Keen’v is or what Pour y arriver is about but apparently the whole song was filmed in Malta and features some amazing shots of the island. The song has an uplifting beat to it and the production is top quality. It’s nice to see Malta portrayed for all its beauty during these difficult times.
9. Miriam Christine – Dil-Mara
Renowned Brazilian-Maltese singer/songwriter Miriam Christie has released her latest album Dil-Mara, her first major project since 2004. The Eurovision representative teased a single off album accompanied by a music video before providing her fans with the full nine-song feature.
Mill-Għatba ‘l Ġew delivers a strong message about reserving judgment on others because we don’t know what they’re going through on the inside. A compassionate song to get us through some difficult times.
10. Emma Muscat – Vicolo Cieco
One of Malta’s most promising young acts Emma Muscat has released a new pop banger ‘Vicolo Cieco’ on her YouTube channel and it feels like Christmas came early.
