He’s a Grammy Award winner, a four-time DJ Awards Winner, with 8 consecutive IDMA nominations – and he’s coming back to Malta this Sunday.

That’s right. DJ Roger Sanchez has finished his global summer festival circuit and will be capping Malta’s impressively eventful summer with a banger of a show at MedAsia Playa’s Official Closing, on Sunday, 17 September.

Lovin Malta caught up with the legendary genius house DJ ahead of his upcoming 3-hour set in Malta, and he had some flattering impressions of Malta, to say the least.

“Malta is a beautiful island with lovely people, beaches and an important history. It’s one of the places I love most to visit,” Sanchez said. “The island has definitely grown with the fans who love dance music. For a while, like many places, EDM took over the scene but now I’m seeing House and underground sounds returning and the crowds embracing it.”

“The Maltese are very knowledgeable about what they like musically, but are also open minded,” Sanchez said. “They have an island fun loving mentality that is very attractive.”

The 50 year-old legendary House DJ from Queens, New York, has been setting the bar in the House scene for decades now, continuously hitting the European charts with tracks like “Another Chance”, “Lost”, and “Not Enough”.

Along with his original tracks, Sanchez has used other well established musicians’ tracks as a canvas for brilliantly crafted remixes, including work from Daft Punk, The Police, Madonna, Dianna Ross, Kylie Minogue, Maroon 5, and No Doubt – and that’s only the tip of the artistic iceberg. His golden remix of No Doubt’s “Hella Good” earned the DJ a Grammy Award in 2003.

As far as selecting which pieces of music to work his remix magic on, Sanchez told us:

“Music has to touch me emotionally on some level if I want to be involved with it. That’s what I look for first- that gut reaction that draws me in.”

When the superstar DJ isn’t touring the world, or headlining festivals like Glastonbury, Tomorrowland, Ultra, and Electric Zoo – he’s recording his weekly podcast, “Release Yourself“, which has gained over 15 million listeners worldwide with over 800 episodes released.

“I’m enjoying the resurgence of House and really loving the crowd reactions everywhere. My goals are always to connect to my audience wherever I play,” Sanchez said of his booming podcast odyssey. “It started from me guest hosting for Pete Tong on the Essential Selection Show for Radio One many years ago. I was offered my own show after that and the rest as they say is history.”

You can rave the night away with DJ Roger Sanchez at MedAsia Playa on Sunday, 17 September. Tickets are only €20, so they’re going fast! And don’t forget, it’s a day party and doors open at noon.

See you there!
