Mikaela Bajada, performing under her stage name Mikayla, is a 24-year-old singer from Gozo who released her debut original song One Day (For Real) on 17th August.

This is not the first time that Malta has witnessed Mikayla’s presence in the music scene. Mikayla’s initial solo performance was in 2008 after she performed in several competitions and attended vocal lessons to continue improving her vocal skills which allowed her to build her confidence on stage and have many opportunities where she could perform.

She first graced our screens when she won the Malta Junior Eurosong alongside her friend Francesca when they sang the duet “Double Trouble.”

Both girls had the experience of a lifetime when they travelled all the way to Ukraine to represent Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, where they came in eighth place.

Mikaela’s singing ability is undeniably one to watch, as she consistently showcases her talent through versatile song covers shared on her social media platforms.

While her dreams have long centered on music, Bajada also started a nursing career at the age of 22 after graduating.

After a short break from official performances to concentrate on her studies, Mikaela decided to pursue her life-long dream of writing a song and released her debut song to the public.

Her inspiration draws from international artists such as Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Meghan Trainor, Billie Eilish as well as K-pop artists.

Mikayla also released a music video for the song collaborating with Maltese artist Matthew James who also produced the track.

One Day (For Real) is available to stream on all music platforms so make sure to check it out.

Congratulations to Mikayla on her debut single!
