WATCH: Maltese Singer-Songwriter Reveals Tribute To Strong Women In Latest Music Video
He’s set to grace our screens during the auditions of X Factor Malta’s second season, but while we wait for the first episodes to air later this year, local singer-songwriter Dav.Jr has just dropped his latest single: She.
Carrying some sleek anaglyph visuals, the song represents a lot of firsts for David, who shot and directed the video entirely himself
Following a course of self-approval, Dav.Jr began the track one morning after a boozy Saturday night. Getting into the flow with the first tune that came to him, he began recording on his laptop with no steady image of what he wanted the finished product to be.
The vocals came to him on the spot – an improvisation he built on while listening back to the instrumental track. This style of writing was very different to what Dav.Jr has used before, and being out of his comfort zone with the track already, he felt he’d use it as a stepping stone into liberation with his work. And the process of getting the track from the first few strums to the final release saw the young artist overhaul his attitude towards his craft.
“I decided to ignore my idea of artistic integrity of something not sounding good enough and decided to say that each song is a part of my character I should harbour and shine a light on.”
The video features Justine Borg in a wheatfield with the track breezing over, a representation of Dav.Jr’s admiration for women who work hard on themselves to feel comfortable in their own skin and keep their heads above the water when times are tough.
