WATCH: Parliament Belt Out A Powerful And Painfully Off-Key Rendition Of Claudette Pace’s ‘Desire’
Malta’s parliament can become heated really quickly, with tempers flaring and harsh words uttered on the regular – but that doesn’t mean that Maltese parliamentarians can’t band together every now and then and belt out some Maltese classics.
A video uploaded by Labour MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer features a number of Malta’s leading politicians have teaming up to cover sometime Deputy Speaker of the House Claudette Buttigieg’s 2000 hit ‘Desire’ – and it’s perfect feelgood Maltese Christmas material.
Some parliamentarians really get into the groove
MP Rosianne Cutajar and Parliamentary Secretary Roderick Galdes can be seen getting all types of hype to the track, with Galdes sashaying his arms left to right and Cutajar beaming with joy as she sang.
“Desire” was Malta’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, performed mainly in English but with a bridge in Maltese by Claudette Pace. The song is an up-tempo ballad, with Pace explaining the depth of her feelings to her lover – and Parliament were absolutely loving it.
The songs were being practiced ahead of this year’s massive L-Istrina charity telethon, which is in its 20th edition, and will be held on the 26th of December.
‘Desire’ wasn’t the only song the parliamentarians covered – the 90s classic Macarena was also given a run
Let’s just hope the MPs get a bit more practice time before they actually hit the stage,
