WATCH: Ben Camilleri And Isaac Vassallo Are The Newest Names In Maltese Rap
Ben Camilleri (no, not the reality TV star) shot to internet fame when he perfectly nailed Maltese pepe parents in a shit-they-say-styled compilation earlier this year. Now, he’s back in front of the camera doing something very different… rapping alongside his childhood friend.
This week, Camilleri shared a video to a song, Below Me, which served as the debut of rap duo Ink2Sound. The group is Camilleri’s collaboration with Isaac Vassallo, a childhood friend who’s been by his side all the way to their kindergarten days.
“B and I go way back,” Isaac told Lovin Malta. “We’ve been writing music together for more than a decade and we had been saying we need to publish our music for years, especially since we try to write songs which relate to other people’s struggles.” As Ben explained, the story behind this song is as personal as they get.
“I’ve been lately feeling kind of in a loop, working a job that was making me feel miserable and feeling down on a regular basis,” the young rapper told Lovin Malta. “I’ve never felt ready to release anything before today. The feedback has been great and I honestly intend to keep at it!”
“We are definitely planning to publish more music, because it’s the only thing that we love doing in life and we have so much passion for it,” Issac told Lovin Malta. “We also produce the beats ourselves, and we’re happy that we’ve already managed to come this far.”
Ben Camilleri himself is a big fan of Eminem, having even changed his nickname on Facebook to Shady. “To be honest I’m a massive fan and I even went up to watch him live last month,” he said.
As for Isaac? “I get my motivation and inspiration from Russ… yeah, mostly Russ!” he said of the Italo-American rapper who just released a new single himself this week.
