Young Maltese Composers Showcase Original Works After Months-Long Mentoring Programme

After months of training, a group of 11 young composers got to showcase their musical talents at the Robert Sammut Hall in Floriana.

This event closed off the Young Composers’ Mentoring Programme, a collaboration between Agenzija Zghazagh and Pjazza Teatru Rjal that was set up to support young composers explore the world of music making.

Trainees experienced tutorials and workshops by established composers in classical, pop, rock and jazz, including the likes of Shaun Michael Portelli, Carl Borg, Amy Vella, Jacob Abela, Craig Saliba, Etienne de Gabriele Ferrante, Nicholas Nani, Clayton Gauci, and Thomas Valletta.

And months of training, they were given a platform on 11th October to perform original works they had composed.

“This event builds on our commitment to celebrate culture in all its forms and to keep sustaining artists, in this case these extremely talented students,” Minister for the Arts Owen Bonnici said at the event.
