Now You Can Levitate Anything With This Maltese-Designed Kickstarter Project
Imagine being able to levitate just about anything on your comodina or coffee table: a light, an alarm clock, a baby Jesus, a dildo… Well, now you can, but only if you help get this idea off the ground first.
LIGHTEST is a Kickstarter project created up by Barcelona-based Maltese product designer Chris Muscat Azzopardi.
“I am an architect by training but have been heavily involved in the product design industry for the last 10 years,” the 38-year-old told Lovin Malta.
“I was introduced to this technology about a year ago, when I contacted a supplier to create a product stand for a client. The project never got to market due to budget restrictions but the technology kept buzzing around my head and I decided it was too cool not to get it out onto market.”
That´s where Kickstarter comes in, a crowdfunding platform that allows popular products to find production funding.

While other levitating stands already exist, there are a number of things that make LIGHTEST different. Firstly, it’s remote-operated so you can turn it on or off without touching it.
“The lampshade, which also changes colour to suit your mood, is detachable so you can 3D print or build your own to replace it. Also you can levitate ANYTHING you want by detaching the magnet and attaching it to whatever you want to float,” he says.

The product costs €140 but pledges start from even €1 for those who believe in this product, and want to help it gain visibility and popularity.
“The main challenge here was finding the right suppliers that could develop it at an accessible price. To do that we have to sell a large number to reach the price point that makes LIGHTEST feasible.”
The project has 40 days to raise €60,000 but it’s already got almost €3,000 from 23 backers.
