11 Old Versions Of Maltese Websites That’ll Make You Feel Bad For 2006 You

Article Featured Image

With technology evolving faster than ever before, it’s hard to keep track of all the changes going on around us. Which iPhone is the newest? What is the difference between 3G and 4G? Do we like Justin Bieber now?

For the sake of nostalgia we travelled back in time to take a look at what some of Malta’s most popular websites looked like in 2006 (yes, you read that correctly; 2006 was 10 years ago).

1. Times of Malta

You know the internet was still a new fad when you have to explain where ads can be placed.

2. Gov.mt

All things considered, the gov.mt website holds up pretty well in 2017. It may be a bit dated, but when compared to some of the other sites on this list, it scores pretty high on the ‘doesn’t make me cringe for younger me’ ranking.

3. DI-VE

This one will hit you right in the feels, kids. It may not have been the prettiest page on the web, but it was everyone’s go-to landing page.

Google? No thanks, I’d like to “SearchMalta“.

4. MaltaPark

How sweet of Maltapark to stay true to its roots, and barely change anything about its webpage in over 10 years.

5. Airmalta

Airmalta’s site designer probably had the same briefing as Soviet architects did in the 1960s: functionality first.

6. One

This is what happens when you list ‘web design’ on your C.V. but have no real experience in the field.

7. Bay

Sure, their website design has changed, but their automatically-blaring-music-at-you-whenever-you-use-their-site has not. #Mute

8. Malta International Airport

The saddest part about all this is seeing the share prices in Liri Maltin. Give us back our heavy Merill coin please.

9. BOV

Like the government’s page, BOV iback in 2006 isn’t overly cringe-worthy. It was certainly a lot more user friendly than its competitor at the time.

10. HSBC Malta

With 10 years of feedback to work with, HSBC Malta has now become a lot sleeker in its design when compared to the 2006; also, that being said, they’ve done absolutely nothing to make the user’s life easier.

11. MaltaToday

There’s a lot one could say about the site’s aesthetics (and of course the phrase “internet edition”), but can we focus for a second on the Norman Lowell BBQ/Daphne Arsonists drama for a second?

Bonus: Pornhub

Yes yes, we know that Pornhub is not a Maltese website, but it ranks so high with Maltese viewers that we had to include it. 10 years ago Pornhub was still under construction, but it’s nice to know they already had their ‘double penetration’ tab programmed and ready to go.
