One Of Malta’s First ‘Super Clubs’ Is Closing Its Doors For Good, And Five Big Parties Are Seeing It Off In Style

Every Maltese person over the age of 20 will have fond memories of Tattingers. The iconic nightclub in the north has stood the test of time, being one of the country’s most popular music venues for a quarter of a century. Now, earmarked for a development, Tattingers is set to permanently close its doors.

Back in 2003, the already iconic, ten-year-old Tattingers had undergone a massive refurbishment from its early 90s days . The refurbishment saw the bar-turned-disco go from a regular haunt of 60s and 70s kids to a Generation X and Y ‘super club’. Quickly, from underground festivals to local band launches, more events started making their way to Saqqajja Hill club.

To send off the renowned nightclub in style, a group of promoters have come together to organise a five-night extravaganza of events. And that group includes Junky Pescio, one of the country’s first ever party promoters.

Aptly named Tattingers, The Finalthe cluster of events is set to celebrate the 25 years of memories that the club has given to so many different generations of party-goers.

The celebrations started earlier last month with a Carnival weekender featuring everything from nostalgic 90s nights to classic house sets.

With five nights left, these are your last opportunities to celebrate Tattingers’ final week.

Saturday 10th March: N’Heaven Solo Classics

A three-hour exclusive set all about some of trance music’s biggest classics.

Extra lights and visuals are going to be set up to take this night to a whole new level.

Sunday 18th March: La Fiesta

Eve of a public holiday party celebrating Rabat’s St. Joseph feast.

Another opportunity to relive all the classics, also coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day weekend for some added revelry.

Monday 19th March: Alive, The Public Holiday Special

A night to go underground.

Headlining the night will be Alive’s RAMZI and DRE’, along with a seven-DJ lineup for a solid public holiday celebration.

It all starts at 4pm, but don’t worry; the part will go on well after sunset.

Friday 23rd March: Junky Pescio Reunion

One of the first party promoters on the island return to one of the country’s first super clubs. What’s not to love about this?

DJ Gianni, Ramon Muscat and Jonathan Shaw were university students in the 90s who decided to organise an open party at the then just-refurbished Tattingers.

“Our generation didn’t really know of frequent the place, we only used to go to Paceville,” Shaw told Lovin Malta. “We didn’t have Facebook, the internet or any professional fliers at the time, it was purely promoted via word of mouth and very basic posters which were practically photocopies.”

The group came up with Junky Pescio (a combination of their names and nicknames), and the rest is history.

For one night only some 25 years later, the group will be returning to Tattingers to relive the good old days. And yes, Gianni will be DJing.

Saturday 24th March: The Closing Down Party

The absolutely final night of them all.

Featuring the legendary Ruby & Friends, promoters of massive underground parties spanning from 1999 to 2013, the night will definitely be sold out. Nearly all tickets are already taken, with some left here and at ticket outlets from all around the island.
