Animal activist, Romina Frendo, has invited the public to pay tribute to the cats who were killed in the last weeks this evening at 7.30pm.

Frendo invited all who would like to pay respect to the cats who were murdered to join in on the tribute at Cuschieri Street, Gżira moving on to Patri Marjanu Vella Street, Sliema and ending the vigil at Our Saviour Street and St Charles Street, Sliema.

This is the second vigil that is being held for the cats murdered in the port area. Organisers of the first vigil had called on the public to stand together in compassion and raise their voices against cruelty.

Five stray cats were found dead in Sliema in what residents suspected to be animal cruelty. As weeks progressed, cats kept going missing and later found killed.

The suspect was arrested last night by the police and was confirmed to be a 31-year-old Japanese male national. He was caught after days of investigating surveillance in connection with the cat killings.

Police searched the man and discovered that he was carrying some cat food packets and a pair of latex gloves that looked like the ones that were allegedly used to kill the cats.

Following the man’s arrest, the police searched his home and collected every article of clothing the suspect was wearing and that was shown on the film from several security cameras.
