Animal Welfare Rescued 10 Dogs And 15 Cats Every Week Throughout 2024
This year, Animal Welfare Malta significantly boosted their investment to ensure the well-being of animals. To meet the rising demand, additional staff were recruited.
In 2023, the organisation handled approximately 7,000 calls. However, in 2024, requests more than doubled, with the hotline receiving up to 15,000 calls. The hotline, previously 1717, has now been moved to 153 (extension 17).
The calls ranged from requests for assistance and reports of animal mistreatment to numerous inquiries about the services offered by Animal Welfare.
Out of all these calls, 3,600 were requests for assistance to check about animals getting lost or in danger, out of which more than 1,300 cats and dogs were rescued. To be able to render this service and reach as many animals as possible in a short span of time, Animal Welfare had to also invest in 2 new ambulances.
Training has also been ongoing to ensure the best service is given by Animal Welfare’s rescuers.
