Animals Are Being Dumped In Open Fields, MSPCA Warns

Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (MSPCA) has warned that animals are being dumped in open fields.
“This is cruel, illegal and dangerous,” MSPCA wrote on social media.
Abandoning dead animals violates Malta’s Animal Welfare and Environmental Health laws with offenders supposedly facing fines and prosecution.
Not only is it unlawful, but it’s also a public health risk with rotting carcasses spreading disease, contaminating land and water, and attracting vermin. Like most other public health risks, this endangers wildlife, pets and people.
MSPCA went on to inform that there are safe and legal disposal methods that ensure that animals are respected both in life and death.
“Use licensed vets or environmental services – never dump.”
It concluded its statement by calling for stronger law enforcement, clearer disposal guidance and more public awareness.
If you see illegal dumping, be sure to report it to Animal Welfare or ERA.
