‘Another Message From The Sea’: Dolphin Escorts Neil Agius After Abandoning Painful 100-Mile Swim

Yesterday started on a crushing note for Neil Agius when the Maltese ultra-distance swimmer was forced to cancel his epic 100-Mile Swim due to some 60 painful jellyfish stings… but a serene scene waiting for the crew at sunrise brought what some onboard believe to be “another message from the sea,

“On our very quiet passage back to Port Adriano, we were suddenly alerted to a beautiful sight for sore eyes – a dolphin approached our yacht and escorted our sunrise passage into safe harbour,” Peter Jan Grech, one of his team members, said whilst sharing the wholesome video.

Unfortunately, Neil’s 100-mile swim wasn’t entirely successful due to him being stung 60 times by a swarm of jellyfish.

The Maltese ultra-distance swimmer had no choice but to abandon his groundbreaking swim.

“It’s been a rough 48 hours, a roller coaster of action, motivation, emotions and reflection,” Grech said.

To make up for this, the ocean sent a majestic and adorable dolphin to escort his boat to shore, with some onboard calling it “another message from the sea”.

The whole event was a bittersweet moment, and although saddened and disappointed with the outcome of the situation, the boat trip back “was an overall period of calm and reflection, we all knew this was a possible outcome and we just got on with it”.

However, the dolphin slightly cheered them up, and came as a reminder that everything, including the sea, has both its dark and beautiful moments.

“A good omen for sure. Thank you dolphin and thank you everyone who reached out and offering support, new ideas and thoughts,” Grech continued.
