Are You in Animal Care? A New Law Is Underway And You Can Have Your Say

Are you practising in a para-veterinary profession? A new legislation is underway and you can have your say.
The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights has just launched a public consultation on a draft Legal Notice that will regulate para-veterinary professions related to animal care and veterinary services.
The goal? To make sure those working in these sectors meet clear standards and have the right qualifications or experience to back up the work they carry out or practice.
Draft legislation will apply to the following para-veterinary professions:

Listed or Registered Veterinary Nurse

Veterinary Auxiliary
-
Veterinary Technician or Technologist
-
Groomer
-
Farrier
-
Fish Expert
-
Animal Trainer

The proposed legislation aims to set standards and offer a framework for the regulation, registration and licensing of these professions. Stakeholders and the public are invited to view the draft legal notice and participate in the consultation through the online portal konsultazzjoni.gov.mt
Interested stakeholders are invited to attend an in-person briefing session which will be held on Wednesday 02nd July 2025. This session will walk you through the specific details of each profession. More information will be made available to those who register.
