The Island Sanctuary Malta looks set to remain without a cremation service this Christmas after a collapsing wall has prevented access to the incinerator.
This is not the Christmas cheer we were hoping this festive season but unfortunately, it’s the reality for the Birżebbuġa pet sanctuary.
Concrete blocks have been placed against the collapsing wall for safety measures by the Land Department. Unfortunately, these safety measures mean that trucks aren’t able to enter the pet sanctuary and provide them with gas needed for the incinerator.
This has been the case since November 27th and up until today, the sanctuary is at the mercy of the Lands Department and other relevant authorities responsible for rectifying the collapsing wall.
“Just a reminder – unfortunately there has been no changes so far though we are doing our best,” the sanctuary posted on Facebook. “We still can’t use the incinerator until something is done by the relevant authorities.”
In the meantime, Island Sanctuary Malta has advised anyone in need of a cremation service to send a “text to 79018901 with your name, your pet’s name, and whether your pet is a cat, dog, rabbit etc. In the case of dogs, please give us an idea of size.”
