Calling Cat Feed Retailers

The Animal Welfare Directorate (AWD) within the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights (MAFA) has announced a Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) for animal feed retailers to participate in a new initiative supporting registered cat feeders.

This initiative, known as the Cat Feeders Scheme, aims to mitigate the rising costs of cat food by distributing €50 vouchers to registered cat feeders, which can be exchanged for dry cat food at participating retailers.

Retailers who wish to participate must confirm their readiness to accept vouchers, use specified software for voucher verification and claim vouchers within specified timeframes. The dry cat food must comply with EU regulations, including complete feed, complementary feed and feed intended for particular nutritional purposes.

The scheme, valued at €350,000, is set to commence in two months and will be redeemable until 30th October, 2024. Participation is voluntary and interested retailers are invited to register by emailing ([email protected]) by 12th July 2024. Training and guidelines for using the voucher system will be provided by the AWD. For further information or queries, retailers can contact the AWD at the same email address.

This initiative demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting animal welfare and ensuring that registered cat feeders can continue to care for stray and domestic cats effectively.
