A dog closely avoided serious poisoning after consuming crackers that were tainted in Gozo.

The incident was reported by the dog’s owner, Jess Mercieca Morgan wrote on social media, warning others to stay alert.

“This evening while walking, out of the corner of my eye I saw Diesel bend down to eat something. I pulled him back and then realised that it was blue poison mixed with Galletti,” wrote Mercieca Morgan.

She went on to say how she did not know how much poison he had consumed after she saw the blue poison in his mouth. Mercieca Morgan rushed Diesel, her dog, to the vet to help her dog where vomiting was induced.

Mercieca Morgan expressed how the experience was very stressful and that if she hadn’t noticed what happened, the ending to this story could have been very different.

“The fact that the poison was mixed with Galletti (crackers), and that it was on a public path, which is a very popular dog walking route, makes me think that someone did this deliberately. Once I got home and made sure that Diesel was OK, I went back and removed the poison as I don’t want this to happen to any other dogs, or to poison any wildlife,” wrote Mercieca Morgan.

Diesel’s owner even urged others in the Gozo Community Facebook group to be careful and to share it with other pet owners.
