A generous donation of €1,050 was made to Nature Trust by a 12-year-old boy as two turtles were released back into the sea after rehabilitation yesterday.

Liam, who is 12 years old, presented Nature Trust with the money he raised during his plastic awareness swim last year. He plans to undertake another, longer swim this year to raise even more funds for the organisation.

Two turtles, Nadia and Maria, were returned to their natural habitat thanks to the efforts of the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta.

Nadia was rescued on 4th August after ingesting a hook, which was subsequently removed, causing minimal injuries.

Maria was rescued on 20th August. Initially, no obvious injuries were observed, even though she couldn’t swim properly. However, she later began excreting large amounts of plastic, which affected her ability to dive.
