First Turtle Lays Eggs At Golden Bay This Year

This morning, during the Wildlife Rescue Team’s morning patrol, volunteers at Golden Bay had the pleasure of seeing a turtle on the beach in the last stages of nesting.
The ERA, Environment and Resource Authority, met the Wildlife rescue team on site to confirm that a nesting chamber was present.
The number of eggs isn’t known as of yet, but in two months, Golden Bay’s first bale of turtles will hopefully make their way to the sea after hatching.
The destruction of eggs or the taking of eggs from the wild is strictly prohibited and constitutes a criminal offence. The national ‘Flora, Fauna and Natural Habitats Protection Regulations’ impose a minimum fine of nearly €500 and going up to nearly €2,400 for each egg that may be destroyed or taken from the wild.
The authority encourages everyone to immediately report any observations of wildlife in distress to NTM-FEE on 99999505 or ERA on 22923500 or through its customer care system.
