TW + CW: The Malta Rangers Unit has revealed that a decomposing horse was discovered at a site in northern Gozo after an anonymous report of animal neglect.

The report claimed that sheep, chickens and other animals were being kept without food or water. On arrival, Rangers confirmed the presence of a dead horse and lactating sheep that had not been milked. Several sheep were also found without mandatory ear tags.

Rangers immediately filed a report at Victoria Police Station before returning to monitor the site. Police officers, Animal Welfare and veterinary doctors quickly attended the scene, documenting the evidence.

The identified individual accused of neglect was brought to the site by police and accompanied for about an hour as the situation was assessed. Authorities have since confirmed a report has been filed, and a court case is expected to follow.

The Rangers thanked police, vets, and the anonymous whistleblower for their swift action.

Is animal neglect treated seriously enough by authorities?
