Help Catch Cat Killers: Animal Activist Appeals For CCTV Footage

Animal activist Dr Romina Frendo is calling on the public to come forward with CCTV footage that could help identify whoever is behind the disturbing wave of cat killings reported across Malta in recent weeks.

“I appeal to the public to share their CCTV footage. Many have decided not to do so out of fear for their safety, but sharing the CCTV footage can be done anonymously to protect the residents’ privacy,” Frendo told Lovin Malta.

Frendo is an animal activist and is a member of NGO Real Animal Rights (RAR) who has reported a widening of cat attacks across Malta. She has received numerous reports from residents which are currently being investigated by Animal Welfare and the police.

When asked by Lovin Malta what more authorities could do to catch the perpetrator or perpetrators, Frendo said it was crucial to have competent people in positions of authority who take reports of animal cruelty seriously and don’t dismiss them.

“I hope there will be more people of authority who don’t dismiss these reports as just reports from ‘crazy cat ladies’. These cats that are being kidnapped, tortured and brutally killed mean the world to the feeders,” said Frendo.

Frendo went on to say how these attacks of animal cruelty are linked after she received numerous reports of cats going missing from different areas of Malta.

“We cannot treat a cat’s life without dignity simply because it is just a cat. We’re dealing with lost lives and sadly these animals don’t have a voice to speak up, so we need to stand up for them,” Frendo told Lovin Malta.

In their relentless search for the attacker/s capture, RAR has even increased its reward for whoever comes forward with information. The amount went from €1,000 to €4,000 with a generous pledge from Mix Markt Malta to help capture the attacker.
