Lottoland Announces Major Investment In Maltese Sport During Landmark ESG Event
Lottoland took centre stage in Malta on Monday, with a powerful display of environmental and social commitment, culminating in the announcement of a major new sponsorship deal with Malta’s top three waterpolo clubs: Sliema ASC, Neptunes WPSC and San Ġiljan ASC.
The day began on the shores of Golden Bay with a moment of ecological significance. Two rehabilitated sea turtles Duka and the 70kg Pollyċensa were released back into the wild. The symbolic act, supported by Minister Miriam Dalli and Maltese icon Ira Losco, underscored Lottoland’s long-standing environmental partnership with Wildlife Rescue Team Malta.
CEO Nigel Birrell joined the second release, alongside Laura Pearson, VP of Corporate Affairs, and one of the original rescuers of Pollyċensa.
Following the releases, Lottoland hosted an exclusive ESG business briefing for VIP guests at the Radisson Golden Sands, where they presented a €10,000 donation to Vincent Attard, President of Nature Trust FEE Malta, renewing support for wildlife rehabilitation efforts for the fourth consecutive year.
They also reaffirmed their partnership with the Malta Community Chest Fund through their Win-Win scratchcard, with 20% of all proceeds donated to the national cause.

But the headline announcement of the day was Lottoland’s strategic shift toward supporting Maltese sports. “Waterpolo is Malta’s heartbeat sport,” said CEO Nigel Birrell. “It’s local, passionate and full of potential. We’re proud to back the athletes and clubs who inspire the nation.”
The sponsorship deal will support training programs, facilities and grassroots engagement at all three clubs. Birrell expressed hope that this investment could help elevate Malta’s waterpolo ambitions to Olympic levels.

The event closed with remarks from Lottoland Ambassador Ira Losco, who celebrated the company’s unwavering commitment to Malta’s people, wildlife and future.
