Malta’s sixth turtle nest was confirmed in the early hours of this morning at the Ramla l-Ħamra beach in Gozo.

Nature Trust volunteers spotted the loggerhead turtle – later identified as Angela – early this morning, marking the fourth turtle nest at this beach. The Wildlife Rescue Team spotted Angela nesting last night.

According to the volunteers, Angela tried to nest in different areas of the beach for two hours until she finally managed to dig a nesting chamber on her sixth attempt.Upon finishing, the volunteers microchipped her and named her Angela.

Volunteers think that Angela is the same turtle who tried to nest twice last week but was unsuccessful. In a statement sharing the news, the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) appealed to the public to keep their distance and avoid the use of artificial light in the area. They also invited anyone who wishes to vounteer to send an email on [email protected].
