After days of surveillance in connection with the investigations into cats found killed in recent weeks, the police have arrested the main suspect last night.

The arrested is a 31-year-old Japanese national man. The police investigations were focused around Sliema, where the first killings were reported.

The police were given a description of the suspect and went on site where one of the last cat killings was committed in Manuel Dimech Street. At around 3am earlier today, the man was observed walking in the street and was stopped by the police.

When the man was searched, the police found that he was carrying a pair of latex gloves, similar to those allegedly used in the killing of the cats, as well as some packets of cat food.

After the man’s arrest, the police carried a search at his residence, where all the clothes that the suspect was seen wearing and that were captured in the footage of a number of security cameras were seized.

The man is being held in the Floriana Police lock-up, where investigations will continue in the coming hours.
