Man Who Killed Cats In Malta Compares Them To ‘Gold-Digging Women’

Okamura Satoshi, who pleaded guilty to multiple counts of animal cruelty, admitted to killing cats and told his probation officer that he saw the animals as “like gold-digging women,” according to court reports.

The remarks came to light during submissions for punishment at a court hearing earlier today. Satoshi was arrested after several mutilated cats were discovered, and video evidence reportedly showed him violently grabbing a sleeping cat by its tail.

Inspector Eliot Magri, prosecuting, said that Satoshi claimed he only reacted violently when cats bit or attacked him. However, the footage contradicted this, showing him brutally grabbing a cat by its tail while it was asleep. During his interrogation, Satoshi explained that he believed cats only allowed interaction when he had food, likening their behaviour to women who only care when men have money.

The prosecution also addressed Satoshi’s shifting account of his family life. Initially, he described a happy upbringing with supportive parents, but in his last interview claimed he suffered abuse from his father. Magri argued this late disclosure appeared to be an attempt to rationalise his actions, rather than a consistent account of his past.

Magri recommended a maximum custodial sentence of two years, noting that Satoshi should face automatic deportation after serving time.

The defence, led by Adreana Zammit, argued that the accused’s late revelations demonstrated trauma and difficulty in expressing himself. They requested a psychiatric assessment and proposed a suspended sentence with a fine, accompanied by treatment to prevent reoffending. Zammit emphasised Satoshi’s lack of prior convictions.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on 14th October at 9am, before Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia.
