Manuela The Turtle Rescued In Xlendi After Fisherman Alerts Wildlife Rescue Team

A small turtle struggling to dive was rescued in Xlendi this morning after a fisherman spotted it floating at the surface and alerted the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta.

The turtle, now named Manuela, is the third rescued this month and was found without entanglement, but with clear markings on one of her flippers, indicating she had recently been trapped.

Fortunately, her injuries are not as severe as those of other recent rescues.

Wildlife Rescue Team volunteers quickly responded to the call and after confirming Manuela was unable to dive even when stimulated, organised a relay to bring her to Malta.

Thanks to the assistance of Gozo Channel Operations Limited, the turtle was transported to the Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre, where she will be assessed by a vet to determine the cause of her condition before beginning treatment.

The Wildlife Rescue Team reminded the public that all the animals they rescue are protected species and it is illegal to keep them as pets and their volunteers are trained and licensed to handle.
