Meet Marshmallow: Lovin Malta’s Newly Adopted Hedgehog
Lovin Malta had the delightful opportunity to name a newborn Algerian hedgehog, native to Malta, at the NGO Nature Trust Malta. Initially offered the chance to name a turtle, which was declined, NTM generously extended the opportunity to name the baby hedgehog instead.
The hedgehog, named Marshmallow, was picked up earlier this week from Birżebbuġa, lost without its mother. Weighing just 57 grams and with only one eye open, it has already responded very well to feeds and is enjoying them immensely.
“Well, we named a newborn just for you,” a spokesperson for the NGO told Lovin Malta last Sunday.
The name was kindly chosen by the newsroom’s very own Clara Sciberras, who happened to be on site filming. She named the hedgehog Marshmallow after noticing that some of the other hedgehogs were missing their usual spiky features.
“There were some poor hedgehogs that were sick and didn’t have their spikes, so it was like seeing their cute bodies underneath,” she said.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to NTM for their efforts.
What would you have named the hedgehog?
